The history of investigations of the meteorological conditions on Mars is reviewed. Special attention is given to the Viking and Mariner unmanned missions and the experiments they performed, including infrared interferometer spectrometer (IRIS), and radio occultation profiles of the Martian surface. In the future, it is predicted that manned missions might conceivably be performed, but the bulk of meteorological data will be gathered by lander/orbiters until the middle of the next century. A table listing some of the known Martian meteorological parameters is given.
