It is noted that a mirror symmetry of the Tisserand-constant distribution characterizes the two main populations of small bodies in the solar system: short-period comets and asteroids. This phenomenon, together with sufficiently close values of the Tisserand constant for the majority of short-period comets and asteroids, indicates that these populations may have a common origin and nature.
