The dependence of the scintillation index on radial distance in the near-solar medium m(R) for R = 10-20 solar radii is calculated on the basis of scintillation observations of S252A in June 1983. The results are compared with previous results on m(R) variations, and it is found that the data obtained refer to the region of the subsonic-to-supersonic transition of the solar wind. The resulting form of m(R) can be explained by a model which takes into account the radial features of electron-density fluctuations as well as heliolatitude variations arising at the decline phase of the 11-year solar cycle.
