Calculations of quasistatic Stark profiles of hydrogen and hydrogen-like ion lines forming in plasmas are presented. The difference between the exact profiles and approximate ones (which are usually used) is discussed. In a set of important cases, under n very large 1, this difference may be very large. Impact profiles of central (unshifted) Stark components, which are not subject to quasistatic broadening, are calculated. The criterion of applicability of quasistatic broadening is specified and the range of validity of various mechanisms of broadening for different transitions in hydrogen-like atoms and ions is determined. The results may be used for interpretation of observations of radio recombination lines of high orders in nebulae and in the interstellar medium or in problems connected with diagnostics of laboratory plasma in a wide interval of densities and temperatures.
