Radio continuum, H I line, and CO line observations presented suggest that the ring of compact radio continuum sources found at l = 24.6 deg, b = 0.0 deg, and presently designated the 'Scutum ring', is a star-forming region triggered by an expanding, diffuse H II region. This triggering mechanism has been suggested as a model for sequential star formation by Elmegreen and Lada (1977); the Scutum ring may be in a later phase of a Rosette nebula-type structure.
