Three stages in the investigation of the long-term motion of Comet Halley: semianalytical methods for prediction of the past perihelion passages; numerical integrations of the comet's equations of motion based on the orbital elements linked to the last few apparitions of the comet; and an approach enabling the use of the full observational material since 240 BC to determine the starting parameters for numerical integration are reviewed. A comparison of the results obtained by the methods is used to formulate conclusions concerning reliability of the models as well as the necessity for further research.
