Noise reduction in raw TV images of Comet Halley received from VEGA 1 and 2 is described. The periodic components of the noise are first eliminated by two dimensional Fourier filtering. Then the contrast of the filtered images is locally enhanced to detect with no ambiguity the limb of the sunlit nucleus and structures in the coma images obtained far from the nucleus.
