The Finson-Probstein approach to calculate the motion of dust particles in cometary tails was generalized and a computer code was developed to model the syndyne-synchrone pattern in the dust tails of comets. Appearance of the dust tail of Comet Halley during its 1986 return is outlined in a series of synchrone-syndyne plots. Using Schmidt telescope images of Halley a clear indication of the rotation period is found in the dust streamers (=synchrones) of the tail.
