Comet Giacobini-Zinner was observed from 26 Aug. to 12 Sept., 1985 from the ground. Images in CN, C2, and OI show circular isophotes, interpreted as due to daughter molecules emitted from parent molecules or grains having lower source speeds, rather than emission from day and night sides of the nucleus. Parent length scales derived for C2 and CN are compatible with measurements for Comets Halley and Wilson. In the CN images, Greenstein effects give the principal sun-tail anisotropies, but residual sunward bias due to sun-side production is detected. The OI images show isophotes close to circular, and integral profiles show a central source region of scale 2000 km. Its parent (assumed to be H2O) is being released from grains on this scale and proceeding in free molecular flight to populate the sunward and tailward comas uniformly. The short parent scale for CN and C2 could correspond to the scale for release from CHON grains, as hypothesized too for Halley.
