VLA observations of NGC 253 are presented. The main results are: (1) The radio continuum emission consists of three main components, a central source (≡50%), an inner disk component containing a bar (≡30%) and an outer disk component (≡20%). (2) The central source has a radio power P4.9GHz ≅ 1021W Hz-1 and a linear half power size of ≡130×60 pc. The spectral index is -0.43±0.07. (3) The inner disk emission has a half power diameter of ≡5 kpc and has a ridge of radio emission at position angle 75°±5° coinciding with the optical bar. The outer disk component has a total extent of ≡15 kpc. There is some suggestion of the presence of a radio spiral arm. (4) The radio disk (inner + outer disk) has a half power z-thickness of 1.4±0.2 kpc and the 1% level z-thickness is 4.5 kpc. No emission at a level Tb > 0.1K at 1.46 GHz was detected at ≥5 kpc above the plane of the galaxy.
