New lifetime measurements have been performed for 3 levels in Gd II by
time-resolved observation of the emitted fluorescence after pulsed laser
excitation. New transition probabilities have been deduced for 23
transitions and selected results have been used to derive an improved
solar abundance of gadolinium: AGd = 1.12 ± 0.04.
