Iron hollow cathode lamp measurements indicate that the assignment of the 40039.33/cm solar line to iron canot be supported, and the line reported by Crosswhite (1975) was due to trace boron impurity. It is argued that this conclusion is strongly supported by the identification of Si I lines in Crosswhite's list, since boron and silicon can enter the discharge from the same source via the same mechanism. Hence, it is maintained that the conclusion of Moore et al. (1982) is unfounded, i.e., the analysis of the 40039.33/cm B I solar line is not affected by an iron line.
