We present an approximate method for calculating the infrared emission from a galactic nucleus that has recently undergone a starburst and is powered mainly by massive stars of spectral type O and B. Such nuclei are usually heavily obscured by dust and we outline the radiative transfer in a dusty medium with scattered sources. We include in the model transiently heated small dust particles and illustrate their dominating influence on the near and mid infrared spectrum.
