The UV spectrum of the symbiotic star CH Cyg observed on January 23, 1985, has radically changed from previous observations. The FUV continuum is completely flat, and a large number of emission lines have appeared: a very broad Ly alpha previously completely absent; C IV, N V, Si IV resonance doublets previously in absorption (C IV and Si IV) or absent (N V); practically all the Fe II lines previously in absorption; the emissions of O I at 1304 and 1641 A and of Fe II (multiplet 191 A); and the semiforbidden lines of C III at 1909 A and Si III at 1892 A which were always present. A decrease in the density of the line-emitting region is indicated by the appearance of 1906-A semiforbidden line of C III. Radical variations are also observed in the visual spectrum obtained on January 29, 1985, suggesting that the outburst is near to the end.
