Observers' attention has continued to be focused on Jupiter in 1997, partly because of the ongoing Galileo Orbiter mission, and partly because of the planet's increasing altitude in the sky. Several important phenomena have occurred on the planet and BAA reports on them have been used by the Galileo team in targeting the images. The most important data have been the numerous colour CCD images from Isao Miyazaki (Japan) and Don Parker (USA). Terry Platt (UK) has also e-mailed some useful images, and visual observers' reports have also been valuable in keeping track of the major features.
