Low resolution optical spectra (420-890 nm) of ROTSE3 J003842+405256 (Yuan et al., ATel #1158) taken with the Hobby-Eberly Telescope on July 27.34 UT by S. C. Odewahn and V. Riley show that the transient is a nova in M31. Numerous emission lines are detected including H-alpha, H-beta, H-gamma, OI, FeII, and CaII. The nova belongs to the FeII type under the classification scheme of
Williams 1992.
