We are conducting a study of absorption in Seyfert galaxies, combining X-ray measurements of column densities with geometrical constraints to provide one of the most rigorous tests of the unified model and possible modifications to it. Using currently available data we have found evidence that unification models involving only a parsec-scale absorber are incomplete: a second absorber aligned with the host galactic plane on 100 parsec scales is required to hide the BLR in some type 2 Seyferts. We wish to characterize the absorption systems in 16 Seyfert galaxies that have never before been observed in hard X-rays. These observations would complete the X-ray coverage of Seyferts in which the relative orientation of the host galaxies and the central engines can be independently constrained.
