The cluster Abell 1367 represents the prototype of a nearby dynamically young cluster, currently forming at the intersection of two large scale filaments. Optical observations suggest that it is composed of at least four separate dynamical units. Multiple jet-like cometary trails, 150 kpc long, have been discovered in A1367 using Halpha imaging observations, suggesting galaxy infall at high-velocity. The XMM-Newton observations here proposed are required to complete the coverage of this cluster to allow a detailed study of the dynamical state of this remarkable system, to determine the mass components of the cluster, their relative motions, and to understand the effects of mergers on the infalling galaxies.
