Speculations on the use of black holes as energy sources are presented. The gravitational field around a black hole and the electrical properties of a black-hole surface are examined. Two avenues of black-hole exploitation are explored: as the resistance element in an electric circuit and as the rotor of an electric motor; illustrative pictures are presented. The discussion also includes black holes as current sources and black holes considered as electrical machines in the centers of galaxies.
