The impact of the existence of an edge on the inhomogeneous interior is investigated, using Jean's theory, to study the perturbations in a spherical island universe in which the interior is static with homogeneous density and inhomogeneous pressure. The static body is found to be unstable, and the model is capable of estimating in which parts of the sphere the density is increasing or decreasing. The stratification of matter may occur in this model.
