We present preliminary results from three-dimensional simulations of the collapse and fragmentation of primordial, zero zero metallicity gas. Our long-term goal is to shed light on the characteristic mass scale of the first generation of stars. (Current estimates run the gamut, from ~ 1 to 10(5) solar masses.) The simulations are done using a special version of the TREESPH code, modified to include the appropriate chemistry and cooling function for primordial gas.
