The spatially extended infrared and optical emission associated with high redshift (z>1) radio galaxies is often highly polarized and cannot be dominated by direct starlight. These objects appear to be giant bipolar reflection nebulae illuminated by anisotropic emission from an obscured nucleus. The optical/ir morphologies, polarization properties, gas kinematics suggest bipolar outflows play an important role in the formation of massive galaxies.
