We present the results from VLA HI spectral line mapping observations of
7 nearby (D<150 Mpc) luminous
(Log[LIR/Lsun]>11.5) mergers. The properties of
the tidal HI in these galaxies are compared to similar observations of
seven less IR luminous mergers of the Toomre Sequence.
