Magellanic Clouds:X-Ray Sources, X-Ray Sources:Optical Identifications
Scientific paper
We have resolved the previously suggested optical candidate of SMC X-2 into a pair of stars separated by about 1 arcsec. We identify SMC X-2 with the fainter, which is a main sequence B-type emission line star. This associated star, and the X-ray luminosity and transient nature of SMC X-2 make it similar to the slow pulsator 4U0115+63, but SMC X-2 is not known to pulse.
