The manner in which diffuse material first formed stars of any sort is considered along with how the oldest known stars were formed. Cosmological and cosmogonical considerations regarding galaxy formation, turbulence and shocks are discussed, and attention is given to Jeans length and mass. Emphasis is placed on clouds in supersonic collision under gravitational attraction, and a highly idealized model with only two free parameters is presented. According to the model all first generation normal stars would be formed in globular clusters, and the simplest such model would produce a non-rotating galaxy.
