Attention is given to spectroscopic studies of the variable which were conducted on October 3, 1980, and August 31, 1981, at the time of the maximum. The spectra were photoelectrically scanned with a photometric device partly constructed by the authors. Special characteristics of the recorded spectra are related to differences concerning the intensity of the TiO bands and the disappearance of the H-gamma emission line. The possible reasons for these characteristics are discussed, taking into account differences in the source surface temperature at the two times of observation. Attention is also given to the possible presence of dust or graphite particles in the stellar atmosphere. The considered investigation attempts to demonstrate that amateur astronomy does not have to be restricted to observations. Questions concerning the phenomena responsible for the observational findings should also be considered.
