In a field of 0.123 square degrees near the star HD 95540 RGU magnitudes of 2001 stars down to a limiting G-magnitude of 16 have been measured. Their distribution in the two-color-diagrams suggests two extinction screens at 0.4 kpc and 2.75 kpc from the sun. There is no additional extinction up to the limiting distance of 8 kpc. An important number of very reddened stars with high luminosities strongly suggests highly irregular extinction conditions at large distances. The density functions for late-type giants and for main-sequence stars down to a G-magnitude of +6 are derived and discussed. The luminosity functions have been derived for two distance intervals and compared with that derived for the solar neighborhood.
