The radial velocity structure discovered in the visible lobes of the bipolar nebula AFGL 618 is reported. The radial velocity difference of the lobes appears to be 114 km/s in the forbidden lines, but only 68 km/s in the Balmer lines. A geometrical and kinematical model of the bipolar nebula is constructed with mass flowing at a velocity of 80 km/s for the central region, surrounded by a toroid of dense material into the direction of the lobes. A kinematical age of less than 600 years is derived for the visible nebula, and on the basis of the radial velocity data, the emission lines arising in the lobes themselves can be differentiated from those originating near the central object scattered by dust particles mixed with the moving gas of the lobes. It is suggested that AFGL 618 represents an early phase in the rapid evolutionary transition from the red giant phase to that of a planetary nebula.
