A consistent scenario for the generation of the baryon-antibaryon asymmetry in the early universe is presented. Recent calculations using unified interactions, especially how the required CP violation can be provided for are discussed. Finite temperature effects, namely the existence of phase transitions, i.e. changes in gauge symmetries in a cooling universe are considered. Although the expansion of the universe can be affected significantly, the final baryon number is surprisingly insensitive to the nature of the phase transition, as numerically calculated in a simple model. Problems with monopole production and the generation of the density perturbations required for galaxy formation are also discussed.
