``X-Ray Astronomy 2009,'' a gathering of high-energy astrophysicists from around the world, rightly celebrates a rich and productive scientific discipline spanning some 50-odd years. The participants include everyone from the pioneers of X-ray astronomy to young scientists just starting out. The data described in this meeting come from hundreds of projects by citizens from dozens of countries. By any measure, X-ray astronomy has been and continues to be an important field with strong impact on our understanding of the cosmos.
