The spectral energy distribution (SED) of BL Lac objects can be explained by synchrotron emission which peaks in the UV-X-ray regime and inverse Compton emission from a population of relativistic electrons which upscatter their own synchrotron photons into the GeV-TeV regime. Simultaneous observations in the X-ray and gamma-ray bands are hence crucial to quantify physical parameters of the emitting regions. From those it is possible to shed light on the processes of particle acceleration in the jets of active galactic nuclei. Two sources with measured variability in the SED seen in monitoring multi-wavelength campaigns are presented. And the first results of a starting population study of simultaneous observations in the X-ray and TeV domain are shown, from which general information on the emission processes of high frequency peaked BL Lac objects can be obtained.
