The nonlinear mode coupling equations for electrostatic and electromagnetic waves in strongly magnetized nonuniform electron-positron-ion plasmas are derived. It is found that a small fraction of stationary ions (or high-Z charged impurities) can be responsible for the formation of coherent vortices which are forbidden when the ions are absent. Such vortices might significantly affect the transport properties of electron-positron plasmas in external magnetic fields.
