We have obtained mid-infrared (11.7 and 18.3 micron) images of the Bok Globule CB54 using the Thermal Region Camera Spectrograph (T-ReCS) on Gemini South.These observations contribute to an emerging picture of the evolution of this young system. Our images show two, possibly three, previously undetected deeply embedded objects. These objects lie along the same plane as the near-infrared (NIR) nebulosity and are perpendicular to the molecular outflow. We propose that these newer sources may have formed by induced compression of the region generated by the molecular outflow.
Combining our observations with existing visual, submillimeter (SMM) and NIR data we have created a testable scenario describing the evolution of these protostellar objects and their effects on each other. Additionally, our new mid-infrared data suggests a reclassification of CB54YC1-I as a highly reddened background star.
