Imaging with the Hubble Space Telescope has revealed that the majority of late-type spiral galaxies have nuclear star clusters. These clusters have similar sizes but greater luminosities when compared with typical Milky Way globular clusters. We have obtained high resolution spectra at the VLT in order to investigate in more detail the physical properties of the nuclear clusters. A subset of these objects display nebular emission lines. This paper will present initial results on the emission properties and implications for the underlying energy sources.
