The germanium abundance of a half-dozen metal-poor turnoff stars of the field is determined from Ge I lines in the mid- and near-ultraviolet. The relative abundance of germanium with respect to iron varies considerably among the stars. The two with iron abundances near one-third solar show a nearly solar germanium-to-iron ratio, [Ge/Fe] ˜\ 0, but one appears more germanium-rich than the other. Another star with one-tenth the solar iron abundance also has [Ge/Fe] ˜\ 0, while the more metal-poor stars have [Ge/Fe] < 0 by large and variable factors. Although the sample is limited, we explore possible correlations of [Ge/Fe] with the relative abundances of other elements, including oxygen, aluminum, magnesium, and the r-process and s-process elements.
