The space-time structure of an inflationary global model of the early universe is analyzed. It is argued that either an inflationary fluctuation in the early universe is a mole's hole, or the fluctuation must occupy more than half the space of a closed universe. Conditions are established in which all other solutions are exotic. The global geometry of a space-time containing an inflationary region is illustrated in a series of line drawings.
