It is suggested that an analysis of the astrophysical consequences of
elementary-particle models can be used to assess the validity of these
models in cases where laboratory validation is impossible. This
proposition is illustrated by examples involving axions and stars, the
hidden mass of the universe, and relic gravitinos.
