An account is given of the improved constraints on the structure and composition of the upper equatorial stratosphere observed during Voyager 2's solar-occultation encounter at Uranus via the application of noise filtering and inversion techniques to single-channel UV Spectrometer lightcurves. Bracket values are obtained for atmospheric temperature and pressure profiles on the basis of the observed H2 Rayleigh scattering opacity profiles. A comparison of these results with photochemical models indicates values of 1000-10,000 sq cm/sec for the eddy mixing coefficient at the methane homopause.
