A double cloud in the Lyman-alpha forest toward S5 0014 + 81 has been observed at low, intermediate, and high spectral resolution with spectrographs on the MMT. A curve-of-growth analysis of five Lyman line pairs from 33 km/s resolution data and the magnitude of the associated Lyman discontinuity all suggest that the two clouds have log N(H I) of 16.7 and 16.3. The inferred Doppler widths of about 25 km/s are consistent with conditions likely to occur in clouds illuminated by QSO radiation and in thermal equilibrium. Observations of the C II, C IV, and O VI regions allow upper limits to be set on the column densities of these ions; the data reveal a double Si III feature at the appropriate redshift to be associated with the double Lyman line clouds. The observations also suggest a metal-to-hydrogen ratio larger than 10 to the -2.7, a value similar to that of Galactic Population II material.
