Using a simple three-stream division of the radiation field, the problem of solar L-alpha (1216 A) photons scattered coherently by an interplanetary medium is solved for a realistic density distribution. The back-scattered intensity at the inner boundary of the scattering medium for both the homogeneous density model and a realistic hot plasma model described by Thomas (1978) are computed. The results agree very well with the known exact asymptotic values but differ slightly from Keller and Thomas (1980) in the region for the interplanetary L-alpha radiation.
