Scientific paper

Large scale photographs of dwarf galaxies in the region of the M81 group
are presented. A first classification of objects is made according to
their common shape, brightness gradient, and degree of resolution into
separate stars. A possible new class of irregular amorphous galaxies,
which lack the bright stars and H II regions, is described.
