An attempt is made to correlate the structure of magnetic fields and vertical electric currents with flare activity in the active region McMath 9740 during its passage through the central meridian on October 28, 1968. The distribution of the transverse magnetic field measured in the Fe I 5250 A line is correlated to the structure of the potential field calculated from the observed vertical component Hz. It is shown that practically all the flare foci arise in regions with intense electric currents situated in the vicinity of the neutral line of the longitudinal magnetic field.
