New polarimetric measurements of the moon confirm the existence of the Lyot effect, consisting in the polarization of light scattered by limb zones at approximately zero phase angles, with the polarization plane directed along the limb. Laboratory polarimetry data demonstrate that this polarization behavior is typical for powders consisting of opaque particles.
