Ionospheric models (or numerical maps) usually depend on a solar activity index (e.g. sunspot number Rz or Covington index F10.7). The relevant relations are, however, not always the same in the ascending and descending parts of a solar cycle. As shown in a previous paper cycle 21, distinct from cycle 20, shows a strong 'hysteresis' of foF2. In the present paper we analyse the behaviour of the parameter M(3000)F2 for the same cycles 20 and 21. Our results may be used in a revision of current prediction models and maps.
