The authors show that the observed colours of Seyfert 1 nuclei are
tightly correlated with the inclination of the surrounding galaxies.
This allows to derive simple expressions giving the average reddening of
their continuum as a function of the axial ratio. The resulting values
of E(B-V) substantially exceed those for starlight.
