The numbers of extra-galactic sources expected at wavelengths in the range 10-100 microns are calculated. The numbers of Seyfert types 1 and 2, emission line/starburst galaxies, and normal spiral galaxies expected to be visible down to some limiting flux are predicted for four wavelengths in the range 10-100 microns based on published ground-based 10 micron fluxes and optical magnitudes of different types of galaxies and their optical luminosity functions. The mean values of Z, the log-10 of the ratio of the 10 micron to B-band luminosities, are calculated for each type of galaxy. These values are utilized to translate the optical luminosity functions to 10 micron luminosity functions and the results are then integrated to give predictions of the 10 micron source count. The numbers of galaxies expected at four far-infrared wavelengths (the IRAS wavelengths) are predicted from the 10 micron results.
