During extensive calculations of intermediate mass stars all the way from the main sequence through the AGB and toward the white dwarf stage, including thermal pulses and mass loss, it was found that more massive AGB remnants fade much slower than hitherto assumed. These calculations predict that the least luminous central stars of planetary nebulae should have masses below 0.65 solar mass. It is also emphasized that the post-AGB evolution depends not only on the correct numerical treatment along the AGB, but also on the choice of the initial mass.
