The Lick catalog of galaxies for a study of the association of galaxies with high-redshift quasi-stellar objects due to gravitational lensing is employed. According to previous works, any such association is expected to be discernible on an angular scale of at most a few arcmin with the best candidate QSO sample being the brightest objects with redshift greater than about one. Comparing the Lick galaxy counts in immediately neighboring 10 x 10-arcmin cells, the strong distant radio sources are associated with Lick galaxies at the 96 percent confidence level; no evidence for a QSO-galaxy association is found in other samples of radio-loud and radio-quiet QSOs with z not smaller than 0.2 selected by redshift and 5 GHz flux density or apparent magnitude, respectively. In the sample of strong distant radio sources, the strength of association generally rises with redshift, being highest in the intermediate-strength sources with z not smaller than 2. This result is interpreted as evidence for the presence of an amplification bias due to gravitational lensing in the strong distant radio sources.
