The main consequences following from comet capture are compared with those from the eruption hypothesis. The capture hypothesis is considered the more promising. The study by Veskhsvyatskii and Demenko (1981) on the eruption of comets from satellites of Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune is discussed. The existence of families of short-period comets for Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune is considered doubtful. Topics discussed include comet brightness, chemical composition, and the young age of short-period comets.
