Today's astronomers are living in a special time. Three of the four NASA Great Observatories (Hubble, Chandra and Spitzer) are returning a wealth of data that routinely revises our views of the Universe. Almost every month newspapers include articles about breakthrough discoveries enabled by these and other important space observatories. To continue and enhance the ability of astronomers to explore the cosmos NASA is planning other more advanced facilities that will be coming online in the next decade. In nearly all of these observatories NASA will partner with other space agencies both to use the expertise that is resident at our international partners and to defray the increasingly high costs associated with space missions. I will review the plans NASA has for new facilities in the next few years and discuss some options that are in work for even more ambitious space missions. The technologies required by new space observatories are a major NASA investment. I shall outline how NASA is investing its resources to enable future missions across the electromagnetic spectrum, and indeed beyond that into the exciting area of gravitational wave detection. Finally, because NASA derives its programs from the interests of astronomers I will also discuss our new advisory structures.
